Can i use a hang on filter ?

because it has a lid

could i just attach it to the inside with removable adhesive strips

I don't know if submerging it under the hood is a good idea...you'd get flow resistance and some "push back," which would hamper the filter's effectiveness.

Instead, I'd either see if you can find the tools or a skilled worker to cut a hold in the lid just large enough to fit in the filter, or have an overflow drilled in the back.
