i am getting married in september and i think it would be s**y to have satin tablecloths but they are so expensive, even to rent. i wondered if i could use a king size satin sheet and let it hang over the table. then they could be re-used or donated somehow. i was also going to use white feather boas over the chair backs which i saw on tv but now i can't find photos. does anyone have any ideas? does this sound terrible?

  1. No, I think it is a great way to be thrifty, creative and to recycle.  I did it myself using king sized fitted sheets for banquet tables at a party I threw.  The fitted sheets puddle well at the bottom underneath the tables where the elastic is.  I reuse them from time to time still.  You can find feather boas in assorted colors and lengths at craft stores and on the bolt at fabric stores.

  2. The satin sheet sounds like a good idea (just test it on the table first to make sure it fits ok).

The boa is a whole other story! I have a terrible allergy to feathers on boas... and some of your guests might, too. If i sat in a chair with a feather boa, my face would swell up and I'd stop breathing right within 10 minutes.

You might want to re-consider that idea... ? Perhaps just do it for the bridal party tables?

  3. Tape the edges to the underside of the table. Try it and get a second opinion.

  4. I don't think the sheet idea is a bad one at all. I would suggest that you make sure they are big enough to hang down far enough-then cut a straight line all around the bottom of the sheet. Then you need to hem the sheet to make it look professional. You should be able to hand sew it yourself or find someone who can do it pretty cheap for you. The boa idea, I'm not too sure of. I know you want that "s**y" feel-but honestly, I would save the s**y for the honeymoon. Find some tastefull fake big white flowers to hang from the backs of the chairs-they may even be cheaper than boas. That's just my opinion. Hope it helps.

  5. i like the idea! and why not use a bedsheet?
