Can i use a pellet gun for self defense if there are 3 to 5 people all carrying knives trying to hurt me ?

they will most likely roll up on me in a public place, because they wouldnt dare come to my home, and probaly catch me off guard but i do carry a pellet hand gun with 60 rounds in my car at all times. they dont like me because i destroyed there drugs that they were selling to my cousin, do i have to wait for them to attack for it to be considered self defense, or if i know they want to cuase bodliy harm can i open fire on site. also very powerful gun.

you guys do know that a good PELLET rifle can easily kill right. aim for adams apple for kill. just what kind is it (I hope its not an airsoft one those wont work for self defence at all)
