I have my engagement ring which is a a round .53 diamond in a classic tiffany style setting. I recently upgraded to a .90 loose diamond and want to know if i can have it set in my current setting.

  1. More than likely, yes.  See a good jeweler, they can probably adjust the settings and prongs to fit a new diamond.

But, be mindful of the metal type.  Gold can be reshaped, other metals can't be.

  2. i'm going to assume that the setting is either Gold or Platinum and that the new stone is also round cut, the answer is yes you can the prongs may need to be readjusted of worked up a little but there shoud be no other concerns.

I recomment that you go to a jeweler to have this work performed not the guy in the mall.

    good luck

  3. Stylistically probably not. The stone will be too large for the band and will stand out. Practically speaking, it depends on the metal and the setting. A jeweler would know best (for both).

  4. You most likely can. You need to take it to a jeweler and have them give you a break out cost (which is where they take the head out of the current setting and adjust for a new and bigger head). It shouldn't be much to be honest, I think I paid around $100 or so for a new head (prongs) when I had a stone set. (not my engagement ring)

  5. YES, it shouldn't be a problem for only 1/2 carat difference.

  6. Probably, but you'll likely need to have new prongs or additional prongs put on the setting to accommodate the larger stone.

    Good luck!
