  1. When I worked in bars in California, we could accept an expired passport if it was less than 2 weeks expired.

If yours is further out of date than that, then you'll likely need to carry your current one.

For the future, head to the DMV and get a state ID card.  I've never been to a bar that doesn't accept them.

  2. That would be up to the judgement of the retailer.

  3. If the passport has expired, then it will not be accepted as a valid ID.

I don't blame you for not wanting to carry around your current passport, but since you don't have a driver's license, that's the only legitimate proof you have of your age.

You can go to the DMV and just get a state ID that shows your picture, address and date of birth without taking a test or jumping through all the hoops of getting a driver's license. A state ID is perfectly acceptable as proof of age when you are at a bar or restaurant, as long as it's not expired.

  4. I use mine

I look young but do not want to lose new one, clumsy when drunk

got someone asking me to repeat my date of birth and my middle name but he let me in without too much complaint. he was one of those annoying bouncers - you know the type

in a shop they dont care, honestly. as long as supervisor sees they attempted to check, its all good

  5. Depends on where you go some places will only let you use them if they are unexpired (walmart) but in the end it depends on the cashier

  6. i don't know. that will probably depend on the store you go to

you can go to the drivers license place and get just an ID card there that you can use

  7. no, if the passport is expired, it it considered non-existent at this point.

  8. A passport, whether it be expired or not, is a legal federal document and is acceptable ID for proof of age.
