Can i use baking soda instead of soda ash to tie dye something?

i don't know where to find soda ash or a tie dying kit in brooklyn

  1. You can get soda ash at a pool supply store or in a hardware store that sells some pool supplies.

    Soda ash is sodium carbonate, whereas baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. THey both raise the alkalinity to help set dyes, but soda ash more so.
