Can i use basic white gloss paint to paint my outboard propellor?

  1. It is not recommended that you use a metal based paint because it can interact with the metal propeller.


  2. Yes. But if its aluminum, primer it with zinc primer before painting. Better off with stainless or polished brass.

  3. I would not paint it. The paint will come off. Even factory coatings dont last very long especially if you run in shallow water much. Go Stainless if you have the cash and make sure your zincs are always in good shape!

  4. Propellers are not painted.

  5. Of course you can, but why? They are mostly painted black (The old OMC/Johnson's used to be painted white). You can use just about any kind of aerosol paint (ie Krylon, auto paint,motor block paint etc...) but motor paint sticks the best. Scuff the surface with some medium/fine grit sandpaper (220-400) and then clean thoroughly before applying paint. You will have to reapply anytime you hit anything and especially if you hit sandbars.
