My mom used to use johnson's paste wax in the can on our hardwood floors and they look great after 40 years but thats not outside either. What do you think about the wax?

  1. I would not reccomend that you do that unless you know someone who has done it first

  2. the best is to use the correct wax, cos it is ideally formulated to give the best shine for wood and also has chemicals that is suited for wooden surfaces only.Motor car wax may work but is not ideal for wood because certain chemicals may react with the wood and may stain the wood.

  3. Your right :it's the greatest thing for wood floors and all types of furniture........I used to do it for the wife just to make the house smell nice.......but now am to lazy. But I would try one little area o.s. I would guess unless you have a special hardwood that it won't work........just try a little area.......and see. Might grease it up in the rain.......and break buttom also.

  4. No, car wax will not hold up to foot traffic and elements on the deck.  You are better off using an oil-based sealer, such as Deckscapes by Sherwin-Williams or Clear Alkyd Sealer by Benjamin Moore.  They are designed for decks, and will hold up much better.  Hope this helps.
