  1. what is fios?

  2. thats wht i did i have the cheap general internet and got a router and now me and my boyfriend can use it all around the house and its quick

  3. Your connection will only go as fast as the slowest component.

  4. no. router speed is how fast the router is capable of. so having a 56mbs router and 1mbs internet is a waste of money unless you need a router

  5. No. The standard router is already at a 54 mbps speed, which is many times faster than any home internet service anyway.

  6. no your ISP is what will make your internet fast. having a S****y router with a good isp will slow it down but having a S****y ISP and good router won't increase it.

  7. trust me the router will be faster than the internet. That's useless. The download speed has got to be faster.

  8. a big noob

  9. no the router wont make the internet faster the sorry internet isent cheep but if you get a wireless adapter there might be a free internet accses point you can use that is fast and free

    NO MORE BILLS

  10. Imagine you're setting up a pipeline, and each piece of pipe has a different diameter.  The smallest diameter piece of pipe is the one that will determine how much water you can pump through your pipeline.  It's the same with internet service.  If your service can do 1Mbps and your router does 50Mbps, you're only going to get 1Mbps.

  11. The internet speed is governed by the ISP's provided service speed.  If a very old router that is remarkabley undersized is used, it may drop the speed below that of the ISP's speed but this is very rare.

The ISPs understand that they are delivering packets and they charge by the packet delivery speed.

This means the answer to your quesstion is NO, a better router will not provide an internet speed faster than the ISP controlled speed.

The next question is what speed do you really need and why?  It becomes a question of economics andprudence.
