my mom got me disinfectant wipes for the rats cage. i know that when you clean the cage, you take out hte old bedding, use soap and water to wash it out and then put disinfectant on it or anti-bacterial stuff on it but can i wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe after taking out the old bedding and using soap and water to clean? o btw it has a tropical scent if that matters.

  1. i'd be careful using those because your rat can become ill from too much soap or a lot of really scented things.

  2. Don't use disinfectant wipes. the rat could end up ingesting the residue left behind. Just use mild antibacterial soap (like dial) and rinse well. Scents are irritating to rats. Unscented soap is best.

  3. i use disinfectant wipes and my rats are just fine. :) I dont even wash it off.

  4. sure id use it - id just wrinse it reallllllll well and towel it off  after using the wipes - think about it - can you live in a room full of smelly clorox type chemical smells - even if the tropical smell covered it up

  5. Yes you can use the wipe but you have to wash the cage with water after you use the disinfectant wipes.  But don't use any chemicals, just water and soap, and of course the wipes.

  6. Well... can't be said as you didn't say what brand it was, it could be toxic to him/her.

I use this stuff as I know it's 100% safe, you just wash the cage with soap and water, dry it, then spray the 'Keep it clean' and leave it to dry.

  7. Yeah, but you might want to let the smell wear off before putting them back in there.  Like if you have a ball or something, let them chill in there for a while longer before putting them in the cage,  so they don't have to smell chemicals for the next few hours.

  8. i used to use healthy habitat for cleaning my rat and mouse cages out.  it's perfectly safe for animals.  it's usually found in the repitle section at petsmart.  or any exotic animal shop should carry it.

  10. no i is bad for it because of the chemicals

  11. Yes as long as on the back of the can says ''NO CFC's''

  12. I asked that same question awhile ago, and I didn't use them, I just made a vinegar and water spray, which kills bacteria and deoderizes, but wont harm the fuzzies. Also, if you use an anti-bacterial soap, there's really no need for the wipes. :)

  13. Look on the back label. Does it say keep it away from pets or children or keep it away from your mouth? Because that's a sign that it's not a good idea.
