  1. CCD-trv108 is an analog hi-8 vcam, i.e. no firewire port. Digital-8 vcams may have. In order to transfer video to pc, these analog vid files have to be converted to digital before it can be recognized & accepted by a pc.

The 'convertion' is done via a capture card,e.g., Dazzle,    Canopus or some TV tuner cards. which is connected between  vcam and pc

  2. you have an analog camera. in order to get video into a computer, something has to covert the analog picture and sound into digital picture and sound. If you won't buy a capture card, then about the only alternative would be to buy a Digital 8 camcorder which has the convenient feature of a DV port. You didn't say if your computer has a DV port, if not you will have to buy a DV capture card... FYI it is not a video card, that is for the computer display, but a capture card. It does not even need to be in the computer, it can be connected by a serial port (DV or USB).
