  1. yes you can use fondant. However german chocolate cake has a topping that is sticky. Usually consisting of coconut, walnuts and a cooked syrup containing condensed milk. So you will need to omit the topping.

Colour will depend on what the occassion is. Lighter colours will siut this cake better. Use a paste colour not liquid. Liquid can affect the fondant consistancy. Flavour can be rum, vanilla, coffee. Something that will enhance the flavours.

  2. YES.........

  3. Yes, I am sure you can....I would think a vanilla or butter cream would taste great. I love the icing with coconut........

  4. Sure you can!  You can cover any cake with fondant.  Most people leave the fondant on the plate and just eat the cake and frosting anyway.

Make the German Chocolate as normal with the normal coconut pecan icing and let it cool completely.

The fondant is really just for looks so no reason to flavor it.  The color would depend on the occasion.

Fondant is normally used to get that smooth look on wedding cakes or to make very bright decorative scenes on event cakes.

If you just want a smooth look over your German Chocolate cake and color does not matter, I would recommend a Chocolate Ganache instead of fondant.
