Can i use i-20 fax copy to attend my visa application interview?

the school has gotten me a faxed copy of my i-20. the original copy is yet to arrive but my interview is 2 days later, can i attend the interview? or do i need the original copy

The I-20 and in fact all documents must the be the original, no photocopies or faxes will be accepted.

It is always advised that you should never book an interview until you have all the necessary documentation to support your case. Just like you wouldn't make travel arrangements until your visa application as been successful.

You are supposed to have an original signature.

You can go to the interview, but they'll put your decision on hold until you can produce the original. As the other two folks have noted, you must have the original to get the visa, and to enter the US. If there's a long wait for an interview appointment where you live, I would definitely go to the original appointment.
