Can i use maple trees to make play gyms for cockatiels?

this is my idea to make the paly stand. my idea was to take off the bark and leaves and let it dry in t he sun. is this safe to use for cockatiels. i also heard u have to use fresh ones. but can i leave the playstand permanent or do i have to remake it so the sticks stay fresh.??? so do u think this is safe the cockatiel.

  1. It won't hurt the cockatiels.  They're smart enough to keep away from anything that's a problem.

    What do you mean by "gym"?  Just a bunch of branches for them to hang out on?  Birds should have a variety of branches in their cage - different thicknesses - so they can hang out on the ones that are right for them.


  2. Maple should be ok, just be sure that you clean them well to remove any bacteria, bugs or whatever. Let them soak in a bucket, you can dry smaller ones in oven at a low temp and the bigger ones outside in the sun. Just don't use any fruit tree branch they are toxic to cockatiels.
