  1. Any Wireless router will work for you to get wireless internet on your laptop.  You will just send the ethernet connection from the DSL modem into the WAN port on the router.  The router will then serve internet to anything connected to the router via wires or wireless.

One recommendation is to secure your network with a WPA encryption password (WPA2 is even better).  Good luck!

  2. YES, this is what 90% of people do.

Now make sure you check with your DSL provider to see if the DSL modem has a built-in 4 port ethernet and wireless router.

I know in N. California, AT&T uses "2-wire" DSL modems which have a wireless router built right into the device. -- Thus your modem IS YOUR ROUTER.  Saving you $49 on a separate unit and simplifying your wiring.

BUT.. if your DSL provider doesn't offer this or wants to charge you more then $49.99 for it.. then just go to your local electronics/computer store and buy a wireless router.

    SUGGESTION:

If you are going to be within about 100-300 ft. of the wireless router AND you don't plan on copying DVD sized files from your laptop to your desktop computer.. then don't pay extra for Wireless N routers.  Stick with a standard Wireless b/g router.

Wireless N is newer and faster, but it is over 100 times faster then your internet connnection so it won't speed up your web surfing or e-mail. It will also broadcast your signal so far, it will probably reach 2 houses down, which is unnecessary.

Again, stick with Wireless G or 54mbps unless you plan on copying Huge files over the wireless connection.

  3. you can set up a home network (incl your laptop and psp) using the wireless router.

  4. yes i got dsl too, just remeber to enable the wireless somehow

  5. mine works like that, right now as I write.

  6. yes that is what a wireless router does
