Can i use my U.K Visa Debit card when i am in Mexico?

You need to check with your bank.

I use my Electron Debit card at ATM and Shops without any problems

Best to call the customer service number on your card and ask.  Some banks do not allow their card to be used in Mexico.  Also, be aware that small shops opperate on cash only.

But if you do use it make sure the shop is charging you in the local currency and not in £s. If they charge you in £s the exchange rate will be worse.

I've found my debit card (with cirrus logo) has worked faultlessly in ATMs all over the world... when the bank haven't deliberately blocked it.

Check on your bank's website for details of charges that may be applicable. The general rule is to make a few large withdrawals than several smaller ones  to minimise the charges because they are often subject to a minimum charge.

I have had infrequent problems when trying to use the same card for payment at points of sale and have had to fall back onto cash or the credit card.

another reason not to be totally reliant on the debit card is that some banks, certainly Nat West in the UK, will randomly block the card as a security precaution if large transactions are attempted abroad. On the one hand I can see the advantage of this but on the other it is a serious pain and can be inconvenient in the extreme. Having spoken with the bank about this they offer no facility to place a note on file or advise of the likelyhood of transactions taking place in a certain country between specified dates. I think they need to look at this again.

You can use it but you will definately be charged! :( Contact your bank and ask them their charges and they will advise you on the costs for transactions abroad. Or you can check online. Hope the detoxing is going well for Saturday. Btw don't know if u have been there before but Mexico is amazing! :) xx
