Can i use my aiwa stereo speakers as 5.1 front L/R speakers?

i am planning to buy Denon AVR 1708 and want to use old aiwa spekers as 5.1 front and left spkrs as my budget is low. pls any one tell me if it is possible.

my aiwa speaker model is SX-ans70 (8 ohms)(3 way)(watt i dont know).

can i buy sub and centre speakers separately. will it give good and balanced Output.the denon set has auto calibration.

  1. The brand of speakers has nothing to do with their use.  Impedance and phasing are important


  2. Cheap, less accurate speakers actually do a good job for movies.  However, mixing different makes and models of speakers reduces the illusion of surround-sound because the sounds change as they travel from speaker to speaker.

    It wont sound good or balanced.

    The "auto calibration" tends to only adjusts volume levels.

    Now - those speakers will work without damaging anything. And if they are "3-way" speakers with woofers, you DONT need a sub. Just make sure to tell the receiver the Left/Right speakers are large.

    But you should shop CraigsList to find used-but-identical speaker sets for the future.
