  1. You can't use your birth certificate as a passport, but if you're not flying into Canada, you don't need a passport yet. The passport rule goes into effect on June 1, 2009. For now, you can cross the border with a valid government issued photo id (like a driver's license) PLUS proof of citizenship (such as your birth certificate). If you're flying into Canada, a passport is mandatory.

You can verify the rules for yourself at the state department website: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp...

  2. nope it's not a substitue

  3. Visit this site for accurate info

    http://www.mshepp.com/passport.htm

Until next year, if you drive into Canada and back to the states, you can do it without a passport.  If you fly, then you must have a passport.

  4. Unfortunately not, as there is no identification on a birth certificate to prove it is yours. With a passport, you have a current photo proving your identity. That is why you have to get a new one every 10 years, as your looks change as you age.

  5. nope.

go tomorrow to a passport agency and talk to them about getting a rush passport.  You won't be able to otherwise.

If you are lazy or otherwise risky and you have a driver's license, you can tell them that you lost your passport and bring the license and birth certificate.  It might work, it might not.

Safer to do the rush passport option, otherwise, no canada.

  6. if you are flying to Canada you must have a passport

if driving you need government issues photo ID (drivers license) AND a birth certificate

as from June 2009 you need a passport no matter how you enter Canada

  7. if you are driving in to canada you don't need a passport just a photo id like a license or a non photo id such as your birth certificate.

but if you are flying you do need a passport and a birth certificate will not work as a passport.

if you are flying i suggest applying for a passport first thing in the morning and getting it expedited so you can have it as soon as possible. but expediting will cost an extra fee.

and if you do it tomorrow with out expediting it to make it come faster i wouldn't worry too much cuz in most cases it only takes 2-3 weeks to get it.
