  1. You will more than likely have to use the one that is built in. Sorry to say but COBY is a cheap SONY knock-off and all-in-one home theater-in-a-box systems might seem like a good cheap deal but in the long run if something ever breaks down on it like lets say the dvd drive goes on it then you have to send the whole thing to get repaired and you're out of a surround system at the same time.

Get a seperate receiver with speakers and that way you will be able to hook up your vhs/dvd player to it along with any other audio/video device you have or will have in the future.

Trust me it will be worth spending an extra 200$ for a durable quality brand like JVC or Panasonic or SONY.....you don't need to get the best of the best if you're looking for something on the cheap side, then you should be able to find something by the brands I mentioned. Maybe not at K-Mart though, might have to go at a best buy or circuit city.

  2. I was looking at the specs and it doesn't appear to have any audio inputs.  Meaning, not only will you have to use the included DVD player, but you won't be able to connect any other device into it such as a cable/satellite box, video game system, or MP3 player.

I would recommend a system similar to this RCA:

It's a good system for the price and I think you'd be happier in the long run.  If nothing else, find a home theater that supports Dolby Digital and does not include a DVD player.
