  1. I live in America, so there's a decent chance that I'm wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure that the oyster cards only work on the Underground, not the overlines.

  2. An 'outline' agreement has been reached by the Mayor of London whereby the surface TOCs in the London Region will start to accept Oyster Cards - see this page:- http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/press-centre/p...

But I'm not sure whether it is yet in force. There will be the massive cost of installing the gates at all London stations presumably.

  3. Pay As You Go Oyster cards can be used on a small number of lines, the following link lists them.

    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/fares-tickets/...

  4. Oyster cards are valid on the train Network, as long as it is within the Zonal area and has been scanned before travel.

Most Inspectors now carry hand held scanners that can check your card to ensure it has been scanned and does have the required funds.

However if you are starting from a Mainline station outside of the zone, you will have to purchase a ticket to cover your entire journey into and out of London.

  5. Oyster cards are only allowed if you have a season ticket like a weekly, monthly, yearly. otherwise you have to buy a one day travel card.
