Can i use pinnacle to capture movie from a high defination mine dv film on canon high defination camcorder?

i used canon high defination camcorder to film i need to capture the film shot on mini dv high defination to my pinnacle studio 11 for editing and making movie it that ok

I believe it's supposed to be able to do this, but I'm not sure that it can.  I saw a recent edition of The Gadget Show (UK, Channel 5) where they tried this and it failed miserably!
