Sodium hydroxide is very effective at unclogging drains, I use ii and so do many professionals. Just pour the powder or flakes into the drain, use about 1/2 cup, about one cup for bathtubs. Avoid contact with skin or mucous membranes. It also reacts quite violently on contact with aluminum.
