Is there any difference between roller/street hockey goalie gear and ice hockey goalie gear? If so...what is the difference?

  1. There is a huge difference! I know somebody that tried usin a street hockey chest protecter for ice hockey, and took a couple shots and had to come off, he had x-rays and he got a fractured rib and bruised lung.

  2. Padding, Materials, Protection .. some high-end ROLLER gear you MIGHT be able to use in entry-level ice, but even that's "pushing it". What gear do you have, so I can tell you what you can and what you can't use on frozen water.

  3. Yeah street hockey pads don't protect you half as well, and are heavier in most cases.  Pads are expensive, and i can't blame you for wanting to go the cheap rout, but i will say that when i started goalie i got all discount gear then when i started getting hurt all the time had to buy all the good gear which just added to the total cost.

  4. i dont think so street hockey is less protected
