  1. US$ is American Currency

CAD is Canadian Currency.  They are 2 completely different countries.  Would you use Yen in Russia?  I doubt it.

  2. You can use it if the store accepts it, if not go to a bank and exchange for real money.

  3. canadians don't use US$ a lot. what is that girl smoking?

Anyways some places will take it, the further away from the border you get the less likely they will be to take it.  However, your change will always be in Canadian Dollars (it is law, they can't give you US change, so don't ask and don't get mad. I hate when people get mad at me for that) and don't expect any exchange rate.  Right now your dollar is worth 7% more than ours but I don't know any place that takes it for more than par. Meaning $1US=$1CDN.  Go to a bank and exhange your money, it's your best bet.  You can always change it back on your way out of the country.

EDIT: if you have anymore questions feel free to email me through my profile here.  I'd be more than willing to help with any questions about canada or travelling here you may have.

  4. You might be able to us it freely in border towns but the further you get from the border the worse your rate of exchange will be -- your call - same goes with Canadian funds how far from the border will stores take that funny money...lol

  5. yea , of course , canadians use it alot there too , i used it wen i was up there

  6. A lot of places will accept it, but you will not get the most current exchange rate.  Your change will be in canadian funds.

  7. You certainly can, but you'll probably get taken to the cleaners on the exchange rate.  You'd be better off getting some cash exchanged into Canadian dollars before you leave the US.  Or just use your credit card for all your purchases as you will generally get bank exchange rates from them.

  8. I never understand why Americans always want to use American curency in another country.  You usually end up paying more because merchants just round off the exchange rate to their advantage.  Better to use your ATM card to get out cash there as needed in their currency.
