Can i use the tomtom one 3rd edition to navigate through lakes?

i wish to use the tom tom on a lake

The TomTom will give you your location, but the maps of most water areas are devoid of useful details.  So, lets say your going from one shore to the other, and there is an island in between, the TomTom map may not know it's there.......or a sandbar.    Of course you can plot your own course and then TomTom can repeat the information when you call on it.

For marine navigation, you need marine charts.  These are not road maps.  There are many available charts in paper form, but if you need a GPS, this will set you back a lot of bucks, but are really nice to use in river, lake and ocean navigation.
