I co-signed a lease with a friend to rent an apartment near a college campus for the entire next year, but because of stuff i'm not going to live there anymore, can i void the contract in anyway and just pay the deposit? Still have a month and half before the contract's starting date. Will my friend has to void it with me in order for this to work?

  1. You can go to the landlord and ask to be removed from the contract ....

IF that does not work; the "Friend" and co-maker of the lease with you , would have to agree to sign off and do another contract with just himself on the lease .... IF the complex / landlord would agree ....

NOTE: You mentioned "Stuff"  .... That "Stuff" may be good enough to allow you to back out of the contract ..... Why don't you stop by the landlord's and discuss it .....  ?

  2. ALL you need to do is help the landlord find a replacement for you.  Simple.

Also, if you did not put down a deposit,

they have no damages against you

    to withhold.

put a bit of effort into helping replace you

    and then, move on.

then, check out who is occupying

your unit at the beginning of your original

    lease......if for some reason

they are lacking a person, find

    someone to become YOUR sandwich

    tenant........[where you are their

landlord during the period of your lease.]

I can't believe you would have

any difficult time getting a replacement.

The moment you do, your off the hook.
