  1. You can definitely do it yourself but it's not expensive to get it done for now until you know what you're doing.  There are some great videos on youtube about how to wax a board and I'm sure some employees at your local board shop would be able to help you pick out the proper wax for where you ride - they're temperature specific.

Don't just use a candle to do it, that wax isn't intended for putting on a snowboard or to be used to slide on snow.

  2. you should, like a gel

  3. There are rub on waxes that you can buy, But a Hot Iron on wax will last you much longer. The base of your board is porous and the wax will stick in there.

To do it yourself, you need an Iron. ( you can get an waxing iron for about 30 bucks or just use an old iron, But do not use the old iron on clothes after that)

There are different waxes for different conditions. DO NOT USE CANDLE WAX unless its an old board that you dont care about. but still, i would suggest not using it anyways because snowboard wax isnt all that expensive. Usually 5 bucks for a stick that lasts a couple times.

Here is a step by step Directions on how to wax your board. It is fairly simple and self explanatory. There are definitely videos out there that show you how.

  4. cheaper to do your self. Get a wax stick or you can use a candle. Two ways to do it

    1. use an old iron to soften up the wax by rubbing the candle on the iron

    2. just rub the candle against the board and the same heat will begin to leave residue on the board.

If you get a wax stick for boards the wax is much softer than the one on a candle and you don't need to use the iron or rub that many times to leave a residue on the board. Besides you only need to wax your board if you intend to go really fast straight down. For tricks and such it doesn't matter because the wax will rub off within a few jumps. The cold makes the wax become brittle and fall off. The performance of the wax will only last you a little while. On skis stay much longer because is a small area and pressure is constant, However on a board area is large and pressure is only constant in certain points of the board. GOOD LUCK and have fun don't waste your money............

  5. Yes, others have explained the whole iron thing. Keep that iron moving so you don't overheat and warp or "burn" the base! Food grade paraffin wax works well in warmer temperatures, is inexpensive. For colder temps and abrasive conditions try looking into "colder waxes" which are often much harder and have synthetic additives. For storage, any wax is better than no wax at all.

  6. It depends. If you are skilled at putting the wax on yourself, then put it on yourself. But if you don't think you can put it on properly, then I would take it to a store. Be very careful though, because this causes the snowboard to go very fast down a mountain, so be very careful! Good Luck :)
