Can i wear any helmet while riding a moped?

Question

I'm thinking of buying a moped and are now thinking about the safety aspect and was wondering if by english law do i have to wear a motorbike helmet to be able to ride a 50cc moped or can i for instant wear a full face biking helmet or a full face moto x helmet.

You have to wear a helmet..and all my mates who do MotoX have a roadbike helmet instead of a MotoX one so i gess so

You should not only wear a Full face Helmet but a fully padded one piece carbon fiber body armor suit, you never know what might happen on a 50cc scooter, it's better to be on the safe side, Cheerio! Pip Pip,

You probably should. Though I don't wear a brain bucket myself, I absolutely acknowledge that the crash survivability statistics prove that wearing a helmet improves personal safety.

it has to be a BS stamped motorbike helmet...not worth loosing your life,is it?

The only rating system is called SNELL with a 2 digit year of manufacture, if your bike helmut is rated its OK, if not get a motorcycle helmut and use it on your bike.

yes you do, and it has to pass ECE 22.05  specs. should eb stamped on helmet, ask dealer. If it has this stamp, then it does not matter what type helmet it is, it will be ok.

A motor cycle helmet is required by law. Buy the best one you can afford, your life may depend on it.

it has to be a helmet with a british standards marking.

don,t buy from the internet as it has to fit perfect.go to a local m/c shop and try a few on.the sales person will help to make sure of the proper fit. they range greatly in price from about £40 to £700

the more expensive means lighter and less wind noise + fancy paint job.not always better protection.

you can wear any approved motorcycle helmet as long as it states " moped fool " on it.

Right - ignore any answers from Americans, their rules and regulations are different from ours.

To ride any petrol engined two-wheeler on a public road in Great Britain, you MUST wear a correctly fitting, EC approved motorcycle crash helmet at all times.

If you wear anything else, you are breaking the law - and probably risking your life. too.

It must be a helmet designed and approved for road use. Those intended for use off-road do not have the same degree of protection built-in.

But in any case, protection of your head must be the most important consideration. Don't scrimp - buy the best you can afford !
