  1. This link is for the Navy grooming standards.

It's been a few years since I was in boot camp but I'm wondering what weekends are you talking about?  Who told you that boot camp is (only)  5 days a week?

  2. Depending on the length of the ponytail, it will have to be in a bun, which may or may not fit under a helmet and gas mask, which have to be worn during dome of your training.  (And you REALLY want the gas mask to fit properly!!!)

Save the time and $ by waiting until after basic to get the extensions.  While it may be allowable to wear your hair this way, probably not worth the time and effort while in basic.  No need to worry about looking decent on the weekends since there is no such thing during basic.  You may get some "down time" to go to church on Sunday, but that's about it.

  3. It has been decades since I went to military basic training but from what I can remember, you will not have any extra time to be worrying about your hair.  When I went through basic training, all weekends were just like any day of the week.   You are lucky in the sense that you are only having a 6 week basic training, it used to be 11 weeks.

  4. no extensions allowed.  ever.  no weekends off in basic training.

they WILL be hacked off when you report.  better to just not have them in the first place.

as an AA female you ARE allowed cornrows tight against the scalp( not free flowing) but with no beads and the secured with plain rubber bands the same color as your hair.

  5. well when i went to basic a girl had the braided ones. they grew out and she had to take them off. it looked bad. you dont have weekends off. not sure where you are getting your info. my ti knew she had them and did not care at all

  6. Yes. but it will make it much harder to do a DNA identification of your body when you get liquified by an IED.

The few, the proud, the uneducated.

  7. Ask you recruiter. Although I doubt it. I know with your regular, natural hair you can have cornrows , but other than that, not sure. Recruiter is up to date with this, it is changing constantly!

  8. Ask your recruiter! I used to be a recruiter and the rules are forever changing. Just mention this concern to your recruiter for the latest information on rules and regulations.
