i have one of those power converters that you plug into your cigarette lighter in your vehicle to use a house type plug-in in your car

i was wondering if i can cut the car plug in off of it and wire up some gator clamps onto the wires to hook it straight to my battery since i don't have a cigarette lighter in my truck.

  1. Yes, certainly you can; but if it's going to be permanent, I wouldn't use alligator clips to connect it to the battery.  Crimp on a ring terminal, and connect it to the battery that way.  Also, you need to put a fuse in-line on the power wire within a few inches of the positive battery terminal, or it will be a fire hazard.

You don't need to run a negative wire to the battery; just connect it to chassis metal.  Only the positive wire needs to be run to the battery.

  2. Yes as long as you fuse it first> with what ever amp fuse required>
