Can i work for a day without my working papers in NJ?

I start a job at an ice cream store tomorrow. but i don't have my working papers yet. is that a problem? i don't have them because when the woman called to tell me that i got the job the Municipal building in my town was already closed. and the building is not open on Fridays. my mom and i came to the conclusion that i'll go to the store expecting to be trained (work) and give the boss my papers on monday. Can I do that?

Let your boss know that you won't have the proper papers until Monday. Let him make the decision.
