Can improve my 200 time to a 25-26 from a starting point of 29?

I am a girl in High school its my junior year. I started my freshman year doing XC and track mostly distance events in track. My PR's include:

2.5 miles: 15:38

2 mile: 12:30 eh

1 mile: 5:37

800 meter: 2:30

400 meter 1:10 (only one race)

In practice freshman year I did a 29 for a 200. I am thinking maybe I am more of a sprinter because it feels natural to me, plus i've hit a bit of a plateau in my distance running. With training and races I was hoping for high 25 to low 26. I was wondering if it seems possible for my case. Or do I have a better chance of success at distance running?

  1. yes, but its gunna take a while and a ton of running

  2. In looking at your PR's, you may be best in the 800.  The 800 has developed into becoming a sprint in the past couple of years.

You appear to have a lot of endurance, which is a staple for the 800.  Doing sprints will help accentuate that 800 time.  I coached a girl (high school) in which her PR was 2:09.36 (that held to be #2 in the US for one week), and she fit that endurance mold and not the sprinter mold.  We spent many a practice on sprinting and activating fast twitch muscle fibers.

But don't let that discourage you.  I applaud you for dropping down to the sprints!  And I hope that you do drop down to the 25's and 26's.
