Japanese encephalitis vaccine is not available on the NHS it is ordered via pharmacy on a named patient only basis from Sanofi Pasteur and MASTA you should read the department of health booklet entitled Health Advice for Travellers code T6 which contains information on immunisation requirements or recommendations around the world.This booklet is available from travel agents or by telephoning 0800555777 24 hour service.

The vaccine is quite expensive though as it is only available on a private prescription and if I remember correctly the last time I dispensed it it cost around £90. Hope this helps

A vaccine has been developed, but there have been reports of serious allergic side effects in a small number of cases. About one in five people who receive the vaccine do experience some pain, redness and swelling at the injection site.

About one in ten people also experience one or more of the following reactions:

    * Abdominal pain

In about one in 260 cases the vaccine causes a general rash, itching or swelling, especially of the extremities, face, lips, and throat.
