can it be raining in one part of town and not another?

it is raining here..and my friend who lives up the street from me says its not raining...so i dont know how to prove it to her that it is raining

  1. Yes, that can and occasionally does occur.  In showery type weather there can be a fairly distinct boundary between the rain shaft and the area not getting rain.  I have personally seen events where heavy rain was falling over one area, and literally within a few hundred feet, no rain was falling.


  2. If you are on the edge of the cloud you can see it raining on one side of a street and not the other.

    Really weird, but seen it happen a few years ago

  3. Yes, it is definitely possible.   This has happened to me numerous times.

    The reason being?

    Cloud mass can differ or change in all parts of the sky.

    In one area, it may be dense, thus giving you rain, whereas another part of the cloud may be very thin, giving you no precipitation.
