I can join choirs cause they are very local where I live. There are no voice teachers close by. So I was just wondering if a choir can help improve your voice. I kinda need the help.

  1. I think that having both experiences (choir and private lessons) is important for most people who want to sing. In choir you will learn basics such as warming up, vowels, as well as learning ensemble skills such as blending (depending on where you're headed that can be very important). Depending on the choir and the director it can also improve your music skills and reading music.

But yeah, you would get more specialized instruction from a voice teacher, and for some people I've known in the past who actually studied voice what they're asked to do in choir and what their voice teacher wants from them can be different, sometimes opposite things.

Depending on your singing experience, I think choir is better than doing nothing and you should def. join one. If you find one with a good director you can even ask him/her general questions you might have before/after rehearsal and they should be able to help you a little. It would be nice though if you could find a voice teacher for more specialized attention to your needs, especially if you've been singing in choir already and feel 'stuck' or have problems that you can't resolve with your voice. (I hope you find one in your area, I know you said there are none but maybe other choir members or your director know where to find a teacher)

  2. i dont think so, because they dont just focus on one person they focus on everybody, and if they focus on everybody they cant just focus on you.

  3. You'll get general guidance in a choir and lots of practice at singing but you won't get the personal one-to-one tutoring that would come from a teacher.
