Can kangaroos jump sideways?

well since they can't jump backwards... i was wondering if they can jump sideways.

  3. I don't think they would be able to. There feet arent designed to be flexible like that. It's like horses. They can't pick up their feet and kick to the side.

  5. They are designed to jump always in a forward direction.  There would be no need for them to need to jump to the side, otherwise their bodies would have that capability.

  6. that would violate their code of cangaroo. hence not.

  7. actually, they can!  the jump isn't as large as their forward jump, but they can also "jump" (more of a shuffle) backwards if need be.  they often rely on their tails just as much as their legs, which gives them this ability to move in different directions.
