  1. If they're tall enough and weigh enough then absolutly.

In order to flex a certain board and manipulate it the way you want, you have to be within a certain height and weight range.  Being within that height and weight range allows you to get proper leverage over the board, and lets you control the board. It's crucial that a rider be an appropiate size for their board. If they are too small they won't be able to control their board.

Youth boards are just scaled down versions of adult boards.  If your friends sister is the size of an adult, she can definatly use an adult board.  If not, she will be able to shred way harder on a youth board.  Hope this helps.

  2. i dont think so. every time i go snowboarding, they look at you and see how tall you are. i think that plays a factor. a 6 year old boy cant ride a board meant for a 6'6" man. just like with skis, they go by your height. the taller you are, the longer the skis are. can you imagine a little kid with 5 foot long skis attached to their feet? :) im sure they have cool designs for girls!

  3. I work in a shop and most of the boards have cheat sheets on theback and all you have to do is match their weight to the board. Unlike skis how tall the individual is has nothing to do with the length. it is all in how much they way (as far as a boy riding a mens board). Some times some of teh brands tend to cut corners on boys stuff and the quality isnt as good but other than that its ok. As for women, women or girls are not supposed to ride a mens board and vice versa. Womens boards are engineered differently and since a womans center of gravity is different than a mans.

  4. It depends on the height and weight of the kid. "Adult" snowboards typcially start at about 145cm - there are a lot of kids that are tall enough and heavy enough to be riding a board of this size.

Girls have it even better, because the women's boards come in even smaller sizes. There is no reason that a 5' 110lb woman and a 5' 110lb 12 year old cannot ride the same board.

Use this size calculator for the correct size and board suggestions:

I always size my kid's boards just a little big so they don't outgrow them in a single season - it has allowed them to snowboard for the last 6 years on only 2 board sizes.

    Good Luck
