Can kittens and a turtle co-exist?

I recently adopted two kittens, and now I am thinking of getting a small turtle. Are cats and turtles compatible or would the cats eventually attack the turtle? Does anyone have experience with this?

  1. Absolutely.  You just have to be careful the kitty doesn't decide to claw at it and hurt it!

Other than that,it might even give the kitties someone to play with.

  2. I would be more worried about the turtle biting the kittens, depending on the size of the turtle. The little ones aren't too bad, but something like a box turtle (size of a grapefruit) could do some serious damage to a kitten. I had a box turtle bite my finger (thought it was a bug apparently) and it drew blood.

If a kitten attacks a turtle, the turtle will just withdraw into it's shell. Then it's like biting a rock. That won't entertain a kitten very long.

  3. While I wouldn't suggest letting the turtle roam free through your house but in a tank with a screened top over it, it would be a great source of entertainment for your cats. I bought a fishbowl to amuse my kitties and they didn't try to get the fish out but they got bored after about a week.  lol

  4. i have a cat and three little turtles.  i  always keep them in a tank because if i take them out , the cat will attack them.     i suggest that you keep the turtles in the glass, but keep the glass high up or else the kittens could jump and and eventually knock down the tank.
