  1. Are you going through menopause?  I'm going to assume you are getting hot flashes and having trouble sleeping due to menopause.

First, if it is menopause, are you on any hormone replacement therapy?  If not you should try a bioidentical hormone replacement cream.  I purchase mine from www.askdr.helen.com  I have been using her cream for about 2 years and it's has worked wonders.  There is a short questionnaire that you can fill out online to determine which cream is best suited for you.  It is inexpensive and one jar will last about 3-4 months.  Check out the website and if you have any additional questions you can email Dr. Nancy directly and she will respond with an answer.

Good luck.  Oh, if it's not menopause you might want to give some more information as to why you might be having these symptoms.

  2. Lavender will help with sleep problem, and help a little with hot flushes if used neat. I would also recommend using German Chamomile and Niaouli (New Caledonia Tea Tree). I use these 3 oils and a couple more in a product I make for hot flushes.

  3. Put some lavendar oil in a small spray bottle with distilled water and spray it on your pillow, it will aid in relaxation and sleep as for the hot flashes sounds like menopause so you may want to consider menopause support by now foods.

  4. While lavender is good for relaxing into sleep, I don't think it addresses the hot flashes, it didn't for me.  Besides HRT, there are many products you can try, it really is so individual.  Yoga helps, but accupuncture absolutely works!!!  Accu is a bit pricey, but it'll save you months of misery.  Every herbal out there usually requires a couple of months for effect to be noticed and then sometimes it ends up being a waste of money, time, and sleep as they don't work or work well enough.  I've found some herbals helped decrease daytime hot flashes, but didn't address the night sweats.  Go figure.

But, to ease the sleep thing in the short run,  keep a damp face cloth by the bed and if you wake up hot and wet,  use it to cool your forehead or neck.  You could also keep a small hand towel under your pillow, this is good if your chest feels the heat.  Slip the hand towel under your jammies, at the least, you may not have to get up and change which  REALLY keeps you awake.  And annoyed.   :)

Also, I need a fan going year round, have to have the air circulating.  There is a product called the Chillow, a pillow that keeps cool.  I haven't used it, but it sounds wonderful.

One thing I've noticed.....just when I think I can't take it anymore.....it breaks, and I get a reprieve for a short time.   But don't duke it out, don't let yourself suffer, try the accupuncture.  Any holistic/massage/reflexology/accupunctur...  schools near you that might take clients for student clinics?  (reduced rates!)

Remember.....menopause isn't for sissies.  That's why women have it.   :)

Be well, and sleep tight.  :)

PS. the last part in the school thing is accupuncture.  I don't know why the post is not showing the full word.

  5. Lavender oil is very good for helping you sleep. The hot flashes, I assume you meant flushes? Talk to a chemist or health food place (Boots do a great leaflet with some remedies in for this and other stuff)

  6. did you having insomnia?

  7. Try putting a few drops of pure essential lavender oil in a warm bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes ~ inhale the beautifull calming aromas. It reduces stress and calms the nervous system, lifts depression and eases headaches and insomnia too.

caution ~ avoid using for the first 4 months of pregnancy, longer if there is a history of miscarriage & don't use on children under 5 years of age as it may cause harm their immature immune systems ........... if that is the case simply substitue for chamomile tea ... Chamomile tea is a classic and popular bedtime anti - insomnia drink and will soothe the over excitable, relieve mental strain and stress, depression and insomnia............... only organic though, as the commercial varieties have had nearly all the essential oils pulverised from them and could never possibly be used for therapeutic purposes.

Lavender oil, or any essential oil for that matter, should never be taken internally unless administered or prescribed by a full quaified aromatherapist or other health professional specialising in the uses and administration of such essential oils.

As far as the hot flashes goes, are you vegetarian or lactose intolerant??  These could possibly be a result of a vitamin B12 deficiency which will cause excessive sweating.

A deficiency in vitamin B12 will produce symptoms such as excessive sweating, numbing and tingling and prickling sensations in the outer extremities ie ~ hands and feet, arms and legs, fatigue and exhaustion, chest pains and heart palpitations, dizzy spells, fainting and loss of balance, excessive urination and dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, headaches and migraines, depression, insomnia and constipation, irritability and moodiness and an inability to think clearly ....Quite scary actually if you don't realise the vitamin factor.

If you've been under a lot of stress lately this will cause the loss of your precious B complex of vitamins.

Eat more foods rich in vitamin B12 ie: organ meats such as lambs fry and kidneys, skimmed milks and cheeses, fish and eggs.

Things that will rob you of your precious B complex of vitamins are :- eating too much protein, alcohol, eating too much tinned food, laxatives and diuretics, antiobiotics, antidepressants, penicillin, prednisone and aspirin, otc cold and flu medicines.

Also, try to cut back on drinks such as caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks as they are all B complex thieves........ as well as being great at dehydrating you.

Take a multi B complex tablet including all the B's ie: B1, B2 B3, B5, B6 and B12 as they work best synergistically (together)....... do not take any of the B complex of vitamins individually, but rather as a whole complex, unless specifically instructed to by a nutritionally oriented physician or naturopath.

The B complex of vitamins is essential for healthy neural, digestive and immune system functioning.

The B complex of vitamins is a water soluble complex and as such our bodies can neither store or produce them. Therefore we need to ingest them on a daily basis or suffer the consequences as you unfortunately are.

When you take your daily B complex please be aware that vitamin B12 needs vitamin B6 (included in a multi supplement B complex), calcium and vitamin D to be effectively absorbed.......... vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin, so simply get 10 - 15 minutes per day of safe sun exposure and calcium rich foods are ~ leafy and green vegies, tofu, sardines, kale, broccoli, collard greens, salmon and tuna ...... salmon and tuna are cold water fishes which are also a rich source of magnesium (known as the antistress mineral) which is probably another thing you need to focus on as well ~ your stress levels.

Actually, if you aren't eating enough calcium rich foods then insomnia, headaches and migraines, irritability and moodiness, constipation and digestive upsets and even achy bones are all symptoms of calcium deficiency.

Quite a handfull of information here ........ sorry it's a bit long winded but you need to know all this.

When our bodies are placed under added stress such as sickness, relationship dramas, new job, school studies, boring jobs or just daily life really, the B complex of vitamins are usually the first group to get used up and we therefore need to adjust our intake accordingly.

When you are getting any stress related symptoms or any of the above mentioned symptoms simply take another B tablet. As they are water soluble our bodies will simply excrete any excess in our urine.

Drink loads of fresh filtered water too as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

    hope this helps you

    peace 2 u
