Can laxative abuse cause colon cancer??

Question

I'vebeen abusing laxatives for a long time now[not more than 2 years] and i'm scared that i could develop colon cancer.

NOTE:

and i am aware of having an eating disorder for 5 years now. And i have tried getting help for it and it hasn't worked for me. i always relapse.

I'm sorry to hear about your disorder, but just to let you know, the whole laxative diet does not work. By the time your food hits your stomach and intestines, your body has already absorbed all the nutrients. While the laxatives do make you feel better, you're ultimately beating yourself up for nothing.

Keep trying to beat this, relapse is just another step toward remission. It's a long, hard road to follow, but it does require some detours. Let me know if you need any help. I've got some first hand experience with anorexia.

Your laxative abuse should not increase your risk of colon cancer, but this is not nearly as much of a concern as your eating disorder.  This problem can be very serious.  I hope you keep working on this problem with your doctor(s).

Laxative abuse will not cause cancer, Eat foods high in fiber when you do eat, that will help reduce your chances of getting colon cancer, also have a colonoscopy done. call any oncologist, they have many years of schooling, to become specialist in this type of field .
