  1. Ok leeches alone can not kill humans unless many were on you at one time. I am afraid it would take more than two. a normal adult leech is less then 2 inches long and they detach themselves when full to digest the blood. I researched deaths from leeches and only one came up but the number of leeches was never mentioned and after a second autopsy they found that alcohol poisoning was the real cause of death. So no known death i could find caused by leeches.

    There was a movie several years ago that showed leeches that were very large but these leeches used were not ones that would suck the blood of warm blooded animals or humans but instead fish like whales or sharks.

    smaller fish are predators for leeches.

    I am not saying that I am right or wrong and others may know more but i could not find anything myself to support their answers.


  2. every organism has that potential in some way. leaches can spread diseases and if enough of them are on you sucking your blood they can be fatal. as a matter of fact george washington died because his doctor left his leach treatment on him too long.

  5. Depends. Off the top of my head I can think of a good five historical figures who died from being bled too much with leeches when it was a medical treatment. But are you going to drop dead instantly upon discovering a leech attached to your leg? Not likely.

    EDIT: And that's not true, Dorian. In the above situation the common number of leeches used was two. TWO.
