Can leaving an iPod in the car damage it?

I live in Texas and during the summer temperatures can crawl to about 101 outside. I want to know if it would hurt my iPod to leave it in the center console of my car when I am not using it.

Same thing for winter. If it's really cold can that hurt the iPods?

I am totally new to this and wanna make sure that they don't have to be kept at a certain temp. because of the computer chips and stuff. It's a regular video iPod (not a Nano) if that makes a difference.
