Can lifetime support payments be counted as income by SSI,after age 18?

My 18 yr old gets SSI and lifetime support from her bio father,SSI says they count support payments as income -she can't even buy her own food with $144.00 a month let alone pay her rent -We want to know if SSI is right or SHOULD WE GET A LAWYER

  1. She should look into Sec. 8 or other subsidized housing, which will be based upon her income.

    Yes, her support from her father is certainly income when it comes to SSI eligibility.  Why shouldn't it count?  She can spend it like any other money.
