I always heard that during a lightning storm, one of the safest places to be is inside a car.. Despite the RARE chance, can lightning go through a closed sunroof?

  1. I don't think glass is a good conducter, it would prefer the metalic path.

  2. no, lightning always travels the fastest way to the earth. it would be much faster to hit your car (which is made of metal) and travel down the metal to the earth.

as you know, electricity can travel through metal very easily (hence why wires etc. are metal inside). but its not easy for it to travel through air.

it would not go through the gap but strike the metal shell instead, meaning you would be safe inside it.
