Can lilac bushes grow well in the SE Texas, Houston area?

Question

I grew up in New York and lilac bushes grew everywhere...Can LILAC BUSHES grow well in Houston...

any tips on what TO DO and WHAT NOT TO DO.....

lastly, I don't exactly have the best talent at growing plants...

They won't grow in Atlanta, and Houston is even further south, so I'm saying no, you won't have good luck.  It's just to dang hot, and they can't take it.
