Can liquids get sun bleached?

I left a bottle of dog shampoo outside on my porch, and it was dark violet. About a month later, it looked like a sickly yellowish-lavender color. Can liquids be sun bleached like plastic?

  1. Hello young lady the answer is "yes", liquids can become sun bleached and even destroyed. UV rays are NASTY, and will break down just about anything left exposed to them. For instance, I have birds and I've occasionally had to give them antibiotics. The antibiotics cannot be exposed to the sunlight because they break down, and basically aren't antibiotics any longer. Best to treat outside objects with a UV stabilizer so they will last such as Armor All Protectant. As far as whether your shampoo is okay or not, its difficult to tell. What you can do is try some on your hands when you wash them off, and if this turns out okay you can probably still use the soap, but its effectiveness may be less. If you can afford to toss it then just toss it.
