Can long overdue fees at Blockbuster video or the library affect one's credit?

With how close the government watched everyone I wonder if long overdue late fees at Blockbuster, Hollywood video or the library can show up on a credit report and have the same repurcussions as other things that look bad on a credit report. Anyone know?

  1. i work at hollywood video so i can answer for it,

if you return the movie before 51 days it will not show up on your credit because it wont go to collections if it goes beyond 51 days then it charges your credit and causes your credit report number to go up, so if you have movies for almost 2 months return them

as for blockbuster i believe they have the same type deal, except theirs might be a month or something

as for the library at least my library i never gave any credit info, so i dont know how it could get on credit

but for blockbuster and hollywood video i know if you dont return it in a set time period it will go to collections

  2. If the account gets turned over to a collection agent, yes, it can be reported, but usually the agent contacts you first to demand payment under threat of turning you in to the credit reporting folks.

  3. NO they don't unless they send you a bill for what is due and you dont pay it. They would have to send your account to collections and if you don't pay they report it.

  4. The library will not.  And Blockbuster most likely will not either.

BUT if you owe enough they can turn it over to a collection agency, who will then pursue you.  They can and will report it.

  5. The answer is YES.  Libraries send these accounts to collections who then put them on your credit reports.  Same goes for Blockbuster and I have forgotten the others you mentioned but yes they can affect your credit reports.

These issues were well within YOUR control so why start your question with

"With how close the government watched everyone"?

  6. probably becomes more noticeable the longer you keep it
