  1. Many a corn stalks were baled this summer with the hay and pasture shortage. It is a low quality feed used mostly on beef cattle as emergency rations. The cows can do very well on the stalks, however, and it contains some leaf and shelled corn to help it along. Generally corn fodder would not be used for dairy cattle because it is not good enough to keep up milk production.

You could add a little soybean meal to help its protein value.

  2. I have frequently used mature fodder in an animal ration.  But one must understand the limitations of this fodder.

The use of maize fodder, be it sorghum or corn, is limited by the low digestibility of the remaining material (mainly cell walls, high in lignin, tannin and cellulose, low in animal available nutrients and proteins).  If the ration is properly  balanced according to the animal's nutrient needs, then high fiber, low digestible fodder can be incorporated into an animals ration with limited effect on animal production.  If the ration isn't properly balanced, then the use of a high fiber, low digestibility material such as maize fodder will lower animal production.

  3. if you have acces to some form of a grinder to break up the cob and the fibers it can be used as a feed source. just remember that it is very low in protien and is more of a filler than anything. it is a good fiber to be mixed with some form of high protien low palitable feed
