Can majoring in social sciences in university lead to a career in the UN, like in the ILO, UNHRC, SPECPOL?

And after graduationg in socail sciences, what must i study in postgraduate level in order to get a good job in the above mentioned UN agencies?

  1. Most likely you will need to have a PhD if you are looking for any policy making roles or senior roles. My recommendations would be Public Policy, Politics, International Law, any cultural studies, and probably any post-graduate degree can be used.

    What is probably more important than your post-graduate degree is what you have done and your skills. If you can speak a foreign language and have studied / lived over-seas it can only help your application. However if you can only speak English and only studied in the US my recommendation would be to learn a second language along with taking advantage of an opportunity to study overseas for at least a semester.

No my friend, I'm sorry.  In order to get a good job in the UN, you must have a parent who has committed felonious acts and unforgivable sins.  Merit and competency are completely useless in the career of diplomacy.  Diplomatic jobs are only given as reward for financial contribution to inferior politicians.  Please read the wonderful novel called "the ugly American" and fully realize the incompetence and corruption of American diplomacy.  Remember, the "ugly american" is the hero of the novel.  He was only ugly by appearance, buy beautiful by deed.
