Can male bettas get internal parasites?

All fish can get internal parasites, regardless of species or s*x.  The only way to cure him without buying meds would be to steal the meds, which I really don't recommend.  For $5, you should be able to get a tube of Kanaplex, which would be a very effective cure, though any other metronidazole or praziquantel based medications would be just as effective.  Medicating his food would be ideal.
